It is with great sadness that we have to say farewell to our dear friends at Smallfish. At the end of January, this great supplier of all things small and beautiful will be closing its doors finally. I can’t ever proclaim that I was “there from the beginning”, but in the short space of time that I have known and worked with Mike Oliver, and Simon , and formerly Jurgen..I have not only developed a good working relationship, but also a very good friend in Mike.
From the release of my Level CD, Cycla, Mike has been an avid supporter and promoter of my work, and has always done his utmost to push sales, and help to put me on the map in the minimalism scene. I , and many many others must surely owe him a huge debt of gratitude for his hard work, and passionate enthusiasm for the marginalised genres in the electronica and minimalism scenes, and he has been an important access point for many of us..pushing artists and labels together, encouraging, networking, and in the main, being one of the friendliest and un affected people working in music. I hope that you will all (labels, artists, shops, distributors, promoters) make an effort to thank him for his work on your behalf over the years, and wish Mike, Simon and Nick the very best in their future endeavours. You will be sorely missed, and your presence will leave a massive chasm in the UK network. I hope that the Smallfish label continues to thrive, and that our friendship and mutual support will be undiminished. A sad loss indeed, but thank you so much for everything you have done. Survive and thrive, Smallfish, R.I.P.
